What is the Bereavement Navigation Service?

The Bereavement Navigation Service helps people of all ages to connect with bereavement and grief information and available support. Services are available statewide via telephone and telehealth, with in-person options in regional and metropolitan areas as listed below.

Who Can Access the Program?

Anyone over the age of 12 living within South Australia who is bereaved or looking for information and support regarding grief and loss. People under 12 years of age will be on-referred to relevant services for support.

What Clients Can Expect:

Once connected to the Bereavement Navigation Service, the Bereavement Service Navigator will:

  • Actively listen to the client's situation and emotions, ensuring they feel heard and understood

  • Ask the client some questions to understand their needs

  • Work with the client to identify the service options available

  • Provide the client with grief and bereavement information and resources

  • Link the client with appropriate services

  • Follow up with the client post appointment

Location:

This service is available in the Riverland, Limestone Coast, Adelaide Metro, Whyalla and Port Augusta; or via phone and telehealth statewide.

Fees:

This is a free service.

The Bereavement Navigation Service is part of Palliative Care Connect, which provides information and links to palliative care and bereavement supports in SA. The pilot is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care with support from SA Health.
